MOBILITY & DISCOVERY · OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
STATIC Maps opens a new way to explore the world

A place to start exploring
STATIC Maps combines worldwide street maps, place search, nearby discovery and saved locations with manual trip planning and live GPS navigation. Its ivory surfaces, graphite text and deep violet route accents give it a distinct identity, with a compact navigation header.
Visitors can pan across OpenStreetMap geography, submit a place or address search, select a result, or choose a point directly on the map. A U.S. aerial layer brings historical USDA / USGS photography into the same workspace where coverage is available. No STATIC account is required.
Find what is around a place
Nearby discovery searches food, coffee, shops, fuel and charging, parking, places to stay, attractions and activities around the chosen map area. HeiGIT openpoiservice supplies real OpenStreetMap point-of-interest records, with a bounded Photon fallback.
A nearby request covers a two-kilometer radius around a rounded map center and returns a bounded selection of up to 40 places, sorted by straight-line distance. Listings show available names and address details rather than invented reviews, opening status or service availability. The results do not represent every business in an area.
Place search runs when a visitor submits a query. The connected HeiGIT Pelias service supplies normalized places and addresses, with Photon as a fallback. Moving the map or typing does not continuously query these services. Source credits cover OpenStreetMap, OpenAddresses, GeoNames and Who’s on First.
Plan the trip, then start the journey
Visitors can type a trip such as Vegas to Dallas or enter From and To directly. Device location is not required. Clear matches resolve into a complete route; ambiguous places remain an explicit selection. The map shows the entire road route, estimated time and distance, and written turn directions.
Driving, walking and cycling support fastest and shortest route preferences. Driving can avoid tolls or highways. Genuine distinct routes can be compared; identical returned routes appear once. The estimates exclude live traffic and toll prices.
Along-route discovery finds real places for food, coffee, fuel, lodging, attractions and activities near sampled sections of the journey. Visitors can add up to three stops while retaining the final destination. Off-route distances are approximate straight-line offsets; opening hours, access, prices and ratings are not verified.
Navigate starts browser location tracking and prepares guidance from the actual current position, retaining route preferences and stop choices. It provides a live marker, next-turn guidance, spoken instructions where supported and rerouting after confirmed off-route movement. Denied or unavailable location keeps the manual plan usable.
Saved places and history stay in the current browser. Shared location links carry coordinates, zoom and map layer. GPS samples stay in memory and are not automatically saved to history. Keep Maps visible during a trip; browser background restrictions can suspend location or speech.
Real geography, with its source context
The homepage and Maps Index picture use a fictional cinematic road scene, introducing the journey rather than showing a geographic layer. Inside the map, attribution remains visible for OpenStreetMap and the aerial imagery provider. U.S. aerial coverage is historical, two-dimensional and varies in date and detail; it is not a live camera feed or current satellite monitoring.
Searches, point lookups and route requests send the necessary query or coordinates to their data services, and tile providers receive requests for the visible map area. Source coverage and service availability can affect results. Visitors can consult the Maps guide for source links, storage behavior and recovery steps.
STATIC Maps now has its own homepage entry, live Index destination and official Help guide.
