More places in one wall

STATIC Cams brings public broadcasts and official transport-camera images into The Wall. The expanded release connects agency-published road and weather views alongside the selected scenic, wildlife and space broadcasts. Search by place, road, intersection, subject or agency, then narrow the wall by region and category.

The connected catalogs include California, Iowa, Oregon and Nebraska statewide traffic cameras; Austin, Texas city traffic views; Fintraffic in Finland; Hong Kong; and ministry-owned DriveBC views in British Columbia. Each adapter imports its agency’s eligible inventory across locations, so the search is not limited to a short list of featured cities. Some cameras publish multiple viewing directions, which are counted as views.

The default wall leads with the selected scenic, wildlife, beach, city and space views. Traffic and weather cameras follow underneath, with their full connected catalogs available through search.

The next expansion adds WSDOT’s eligible state-owned Washington cameras, NZTA’s available New Zealand views, and the full published municipal camera catalogs of Calgary and Toronto. These are searchable by the place and road descriptions supplied by each source. Private devices and unverified or restricted feeds are not included in the indexed total.

A viewing room built for exploring

Watch Mode places a selected view on the central screen of an immersive viewing room. Previous and Next controls and a preview strip move through the current selection. Visitors can pin a view or return to the wall without losing their place.

Teleport chooses from the filtered results. World View advances every 30 seconds and can be paused to stay with a scene. The tour pauses while the browser page is hidden. Visitors can also pin up to four views for My Multi-view, with the selection saved in the current browser.

Video and refreshed images keep their own context

Some cameras provide video through their official YouTube players. Others publish still images at intervals. Refresh image visibly requests the latest available image and reports completion; the frame can remain unchanged until the operator publishes another. Cams separates its automatic check interval and browser receipt time from source-supplied capture information. Still-image cameras do not provide continuous second-by-second video.

Load players opens up to four wall views. Video players begin muted and wait for Play; image views display the agency’s snapshots. Watch Mode attempts automatic video playback only while more than half the player is visible. Provider restrictions, browser settings and outages can still prevent playback.

A preview or a catalog entry does not certify that a camera is currently live. Source links, image refresh controls and player recovery controls give visitors a route to check the original provider or move to another view.

Public sources, credited operators

The agency connections use published data intended for public applications. Caltrans supplies camera information through its Commercial Wholesale Web Portal; Austin publishes its traffic-camera dataset and public screenshots; Fintraffic licenses its open data under CC BY 4.0. Cams keeps provider attribution and source or license links with the views.

Search uses the names and locations supplied by those catalogs. It does not calculate nearby cameras or geocode arbitrary addresses. Some agencies need separate API authorization before an integration can be added. Coverage and image availability remain specific to each participating source. Nebraska cameras are included for transportation and weather viewing under NDOT’s published terms.

Find Cams across STATIC

Cams has a homepage entry, an Index destination and a Help guide covering search, Watch Mode, multi-view, image updates and source credits. Its launch illustration is product artwork; the camera images and broadcasts belong to their original providers.

Browser-local pins do not sync across devices or a STATIC account. Private-camera access, person tracking and facial recognition are not included. statiCam hardware and private-device connections remain future work.
