Explore the map

STATIC Maps opens an interactive street map with worldwide OpenStreetMap coverage. Pan or zoom to explore, search an address or place, or select a point on the map. No STATIC account is required.

U.S. aerial imagery shows historical USDA / USGS photography where the service has coverage. It is a two-dimensional map layer, not live video or a view of current conditions. Imagery dates and detail vary by location; street maps remain available outside U.S. aerial coverage.

Find an address or place

Place and address search shows up to ten matching results. Place data draws on OpenStreetMap, OpenAddresses, GeoNames and Who’s on First; coverage and address precision vary by source. Map-source credits and privacy details are listed below.

  1. Enter a place name or address in the search field and submit the search. Search does not run on each keystroke.
  2. Choose a result to move the map to that location and open its place details. Search can prefer the current map area while still returning places elsewhere.
  3. If a place is missing, try a broader name, nearby city, full street address or a different spelling. You can also select its location directly on the map.

See what is nearby

Choose food, coffee, shops, fuel and charging, parking, places to stay, attractions or activities around the map center. Connected lookup uses HeiGIT openpoiservice and real OpenStreetMap places, with Photon as a fallback. Searches happen when you ask; panning does not automatically repeat them.

Nearby searches use a center rounded to three decimal places and a two-kilometer radius. The results are a bounded selection of up to 40 OpenStreetMap places, ordered by straight-line distance from the search center. They are not a complete business directory or a guarantee that every nearest place is included.

Place names and addresses appear when available in the source. There are no verified ratings, current opening status, fuel prices, charging availability or parking-space counts. Parking listings do not confirm public access. Check the place’s own information before traveling.

Drop a pin and use your location

Select a point on the map to inspect its coordinates and any available address. You can save the location, share it, or use it for directions.

Use My location to allow your browser to track your position continuously while Maps is open. Location tracking starts only after an explicit My location or Navigate action. Your live marker shows location accuracy and heading when the device provides it. Turn location off with the × control; leaving Maps stops the location watch.

If permission is denied, enable location for thestaticnetwork.com in browser settings and retry. GPS navigation needs a recent reading accurate to about 50 meters or better. Weak or stale readings pause progress and spoken guidance until a reliable signal returns. Desktop devices can provide only approximate location.

Searching, looking up a selected point, and finding nearby places send the relevant query or coordinates to the map data services. Map tile providers receive the tile requests needed to display the area you are viewing. Using My location centers the map on your position, which can reveal that area through tile requests.

Live GPS readings stay in memory and are not added to saved places or place history automatically. Planning or rerouting sends the selected start, destination, travel mode, route preferences and stop coordinates through STATIC’s server to the routing service. Along-route discovery sends sampled route areas to the place service.

Plan first, then navigate

Routes use openrouteservice through STATIC’s server. Comparison routes use documented fastest and shortest preferences. Identical returned geometries are shown as one route. Connected journeys can span up to the service’s 6,000-kilometer limit; disconnected roads and unsupported modes can return no route.

Stops are real OpenStreetMap places found through the connected point-of-interest service near sampled sections of the route, with a bounded public-source fallback. This is incomplete discovery, not every business along the road. Distance off route is an approximate straight-line offset, not a driving detour or added travel time. Ratings, current hours, prices, access and charging availability are not verified.

Live progress and turn guidance follow road geometry and browser GPS readings. Rerouting waits for multiple reliable off-route readings and keeps unvisited stops. Completed stops are removed from later reroute requests.

Keep Maps visible while navigating. Browser GPS, speech and screen wake lock depend on your device. Background tabs or locked phones can suspend them. Where supported, Maps keeps the screen awake during an active trip.

Arrival times exclude live traffic. Live incidents, current closures, lane-level guidance, offline maps, transit schedules and in-car integration are not currently supplied. Follow road signs and current local information. A failed request does not produce a substitute straight-line route.

  1. Type a trip such as Vegas to Dallas in the main search, or open Directions and enter From and To. Device location is not required for planning. Choose a result if either place is ambiguous.
  2. Select driving, walking or cycling. The route loads when both endpoints are resolved, with the whole route on the map, estimated time and distance, and written turn-by-turn directions. Get directions can retry or refresh it.
  3. Choose fastest or shortest preference. Driving can avoid tolls or highways. Compare different routes when available; two preferences can produce the same road route. These are estimates without live traffic or toll prices.
  4. Find Food, Coffee, Fuel + charging, Hotels, Sights or Activities along the planned route. Add up to three stops while keeping the final destination. Removing a stop or changing a preference replans the trip.
  5. Press Navigate when ready to travel, then allow location permission. Live guidance starts from your actual GPS position and keeps the chosen route preference, driving avoidances and selected stops. A location failure keeps the manually planned route and directions available.
  6. During navigation, read the next-turn card, estimated remaining time and distance. Voice on announces instructions where supported. Dragging the map releases following; Recenter follows again. Confirmed movement away from the route requests a new route. End stops navigation and the location watch.

Save, revisit and share places

Save a place to revisit it from Saved. Place history helps you return to previously selected places in this browser. Use the available remove and clear controls to manage these lists.

Saved places and place history are browser-local and separate from a STATIC account. They do not sync across devices. Other people using this browser can see them; signing out does not erase them, and clearing site data removes them. If browser storage is unavailable, changes can last only for the current visit.

Share copies a location link containing only coordinates, zoom and map layer. Anyone with that link can open the location; the link contains no saved list, place history or live device location.

Route calculation: openrouteservice by HeiGIT, https://openrouteservice.org/ . Service documentation and limits: https://giscience.github.io/openrouteservice/frequently-asked-questions . Routes use OpenStreetMap data, with original source attribution retained.

Public map and search services can become slow or unavailable. Retry an explicit request, use another place name or switch back to the street layer if aerial imagery is missing. Missing source data does not prove a place or road does not exist. Maps is for general exploration; consult current official information for travel conditions.
