THE OFFICIAL GUIDE
Find your way
through the world.
Search the web and public STATIC pages, explore media and places, and control your sources and device history.
Search from the front door
- Use the dedicated STATIC Search section immediately below the THIS IS STATIC hero on the homepage, or open /search. Choose World or The STATIC Network, enter a query and press Enter to open the results page. No STATIC account or subscription is required to search.
- Choose All, Images, Videos, News, Places or STATIC. Places requires an explicit two-letter region choice in the interface; it does not request your GPS. A place can open an address query in STATIC Maps without starting navigation.
Refine and continue
Region, language, freshness and site filters narrow a submitted search. Quotation marks match a phrase; -word excludes a term; site:example.com limits a source. before:YYYY-MM-DD and after:YYYY-MM-DD set date boundaries. Publication freshness is based on known publication dates, not on the date an old page was fetched.
Next and Previous move through available result pages. Image and Places sources do not support every date or site control; an inline explanation lets you clear unsupported filters deliberately. No total-web result count is invented.
Sources and SafeSearch
Boost, lower or block up to five domains in each source-preference list. These choices stay in this browser. Remove a preference to return the source to normal ranking. Blocking excludes a source from subsequent result requests.
SafeSearch Filter uses the source’s strongest adult-content filtering. Blur covers media classified adult or unknown until you choose Reveal. Off requests unfiltered results. Classification is imperfect; these controls do not guarantee that every result is suitable for a child.
History and privacy
Recent-search history starts off. Enable it in Settings to save up to twenty recent queries on this browser, with a thirty-day expiry. Disabling history removes the stored queries. Clear history removes them without changing source preferences.
Web queries are sent to the search service supplying broad coverage. Private STATIC mail, household records, conversations and account pages are not included. The application database keeps bounded abuse and spending counters rather than raw query history or licensed result bodies. Outgoing links use no-referrer; opening one still visits that publisher.
Understand the coverage
Broad web results, the growing independent crawl index and published STATIC metadata are distinct sources. The About these results note states the current coverage. Independent and Network groups can appear separately from the main web result window.
STATICbot indexes public HTML within a restricted set of approved origins. It respects robots.txt, page indexing directives, host delays and removal controls. It does not sign in or render JavaScript-only pages. Read /help/search/crawler for the publisher protocol.
The Web and STATIC results remain usable independently of optional S.A.G.E. answers. When an answer control is available, it runs only after an explicit request and requires linked sources; it does not automatically perform actions.
For publishers
STATICbot identifies itself and follows publisher crawling and indexing rules within its bounded public-web pilot.
